Hello Amy Sensei!

Last weekend, I went camping on Ie Island with Paul and Juhi. It was only a short 30 minute ferry ride away. We set up our tent, said hello to the American Boy Scouts camping nearby, and took a walk to explore the island. Some of the Boy Scouts even shared their marshmallows with us so we could make s'mores. How nice!

The next day, we continued our exploration of Ie Island. We climbed up to the top of Ie's mountain, and I heard little voices calling my name. "Hello Amy Sensei! Helloooo!" Apparently two of my students were on a day trip to the island with their parents.

We continued walking around and saw some quite lovely views. And then it was time to catch the ferry back to Motobu. On the ferry, I heard, "Amy Sensei! Amy Sensei! Hello!!" And there are about 8 more of my elementary school students, all wearing baseball uniforms.

I can't go anywhere without running into my students! I guess that's what happens when you teach about half of all the elementary school kids in Okinawa. Or at least sometimes it seems that way...

Wait until you have 40-year-olds saying "Hello Amy Sensei!" How do you think that will feel? Just a thought...
Love,
Your mom
