Weekend in Nagasaki

Last weekend was a 3-day weekend, so I decided to take a trip to Nagasaki. I met up with some friends (Allison, Dave, and Nancy) there, and we had a lovely time!

It was fun being in a big city with public transportation, huge malls, and bookstores that carry English books!

We went to a park and saw some koi.

We also went to the epicenter of the atomic bomb blast. Students made strings of origami cranes as a symbol of peace.

This is Chinatown. Lunar new year is coming up soon, and the folks here had already started setting up their lantern festival in celebration. How picturesque!

And while eating breakfast in the hotel, we saw a man shaving. He was shaving while reading a magazine, and he kept shaving for about 5 minutes. I found this odd that it was acceptable to shave in a public breakfast area. I also found it odd that this man needed to shave the same spots on his face for 5 minutes. He really didn't have that much hair! I was afraid he was going to start shaving his skin off! Really I took his photo out of concern for his skin... not personal amusement. Really...

Are you saying that a man shaving in public, especially in a restaurant, is an unusual occurrence in Japan? Very interesting! I loved seeing all of your photos, Amy.

AMY! I'm so worried - have you disappeared? Are you still there?
At least post that video of your trip. Don't make me come over there, young lady! (Not that I can really say anything since I haven't written anything substantial lately, but whatever.) :)
