Office Party

Tonight was my office's end of year party. Some funny things happened.

1. We played bingo, and the last person to get bingo had to chug some nasty-looking, green vegetable juice.

2. People I've never talked to (and people I didn't even recognize as working in my office) suddenly were really friendly to me. Turns out some of them can speak a little English too! In an effort to return the friendly atmosphere, I decided to try out some Japanese sentences from my phrasebook. Some of the most popular were "Where can I change these diapers?" and "Is it ok to breast-feed here?"

3. During the gift exchange, a number of people opened gifts which included toilet bowl brushes. I wonder if toilet bowl brushes are the standard gag gift in Japan... or if people just really like to clean toilets.

4. All of a sudden, 3 people came through the door to our karaoke room. They were all dressed in reindeer ears and Hawaiian outfits. Then they did a bit of hula. Maybe you want to see a picture. The man in the picture is my boss. Tonight he was pregnant- notice the protruding belly...
