Even the most boring details of life can become interesting if you put them in a blog... right?

apartment update

I'm sure you are all curious about whether my ceiling is still leaking. You'll be happy to know that after 2 months of newspaper and bowls on my floor, the leak is fixed!! And there isn't too much water damage either! On the ceiling there is a stain about 10 feet long. But the Ceiling Repair Man (CRM) says he'll paint over that! And there is a small stain on the hardwood floor, but it could have been so much worse!
While I was in Chicago, repair people not only fixed my leaking ceiling but also attached doors to my shower room and my toilet room. (Did I mention my apartment is old?) Now when I have visitors over it will be less awkward! Although in my thorough inspection of my apartment, I did notice that the cabinet doors below my bathroom sink no longer have handles. I discovered this when I wanted to take something out of the cabinet. It was a little inconvenient. I wonder if someone will bring back my cabinet door handles...

It's actually a little sad that my ceiling is fixed. I've grown so used to having the CRM in my apartment that I'm not sure what I'll do now. I'll also miss our brilliant conversations. Here are some examples of our conversations. Keep in mind that the CRM is speaking English and I am speaking Japanese. (Why? Does this make sense at all?)

CRM: Good morning!

Amy: Good morning!

CRM: Today water?

Amy: Ummm... maybe it's ok.

CRM: hmmm OK OK. Key. (hands me my spare key. then writes "4:00-5:00" on a piece of paper) Apartment here?

Amy: Hmmm I don't know. Key. (hands back the key) Tomorrow I go to Chicago.

CRM: Ok... thank you.

THE NEXT WEEK

CRM: Oh sorry sorry! (because he walked in the apartment when I was home and in my pyjamas)

Amy: Good morning!

CRM: Today water?

Amy: No, it's ok.

CRM: Ok... (consults Japanese-English translator on cell phone) Monday or Tuesday come back. Painting.

Amy: Ok.

CRM: Ok, thank you. Goodbye.

I should write a book of our conversations. I bet it would be quite the page turner.
